Lifting threads are sutures placed in specific tissue planes to create temporary mechanical support. Materials, designs and systems vary; outcomes depend on tissue quality, vector, technique and the degree of laxity.
The best indication is usually limited and specific. Threads do not remove significant excess skin, replace lost volume on their own or last as long as surgery. Your consultation should compare alternatives and explain that the effect may lessen over time.

Who may be
a candidate?
Candidacy is not determined by a photograph or a trend. These are general guidelines and must always be confirmed during a consultation.
- Adults with mild to moderate laxity and a focused goal.
- People who accept a temporary result that is not equivalent to surgery.
- Patients with suitable tissue and medical history after examination.
- Those able to follow aftercare and attend a review.
- Infection, inflammation, active dental issues or nearby wounds.
- Bleeding disorders or medicines that have not been medically reviewed.
- A history of material reaction, problematic healing or uncontrolled disease.
- Marked laxity or an expectation of surgical change from a limited procedure.
Safety and expectations
A thread is not invisible to the tissue.
Although performed in an office setting, this is an intervention beneath the skin. Material, tissue plane, duration and complication management should be discussed.
Swelling, bruising, pain, tightness, asymmetry and dimpling may occur.
A thread may become visible or palpable, move, extrude or require removal.
Infection, inflammatory reaction, and nerve, vascular or gland injury are less common but relevant complications.
Systematic reviews suggest satisfaction can decline over time; permanence should not be promised.

01Do threads replace surgery?
No. They may provide limited support for selected patients, but they cannot remove significant excess skin or reproduce the scope of a surgical facelift.
02Can the threads be felt under the skin?
Temporary tightness or palpability may occur. A persistently visible, painful or exposed thread requires review.
03How long does the effect last?
It varies by material, technique, area and tissue. Evidence shows that the effect and satisfaction may decline over time.
04What aftercare is needed?
It depends on the technique. Guidance generally covers hygiene, activity, facial movement, sleep and warning signs such as increasing pain, drainage, fever or progressive asymmetry.
